Salary

The starting salary will be £15,456 (plus up to 20% shift allowance). You must be flexible with regard to working shifts, as we operate 24/7, 365 days a year. We operate a rotating shift system which includes nights and weekends.

Impact of the Jobholder

This role is classed as a safety critical role due to the nature of responsibility.

Key Objectives of the Role

• To support the Highways Agency objectives of improving journey reliability and reduction of incident related congestion.

Main Responsibilites

• Monitor the operation of the network by analysing information from various sources such as Traffic Officers, traffic management systems, Police, CCTV, historic and predicted traffic patterns.
• Information collected will be used for: setting roadside signs, deploying roadside resources such as Traffic Officers and Incident Support Units as well as liaising with Police, Deploying other emergency services, and providing information to road users and others.
• Operating and monitoring systems such as: CCTV, electronic road signs, emergency roadside telephones, and police/HA radio systems.
• Operating and providing information for Police systems to: maintain and accurate and timely record of information, decisions and actions, and accurately record information for Police enforcement and intelligence purposes.
• Collecting information for management monitoring, and provide feedback as necessary.

Personal Specification

Eligibility Criteria

• IT experience and the ability to use a range of IT systems.

AND

• 1 year's experience in an operational work environment.

OR

• A minimum of 5 O levels/GCSEs or equivalent.
